The horror film "Molepeople" has undergone a double change: British director Ben Wheatley ("Kill List", "High-Rise", "Meg 2: The Trench") takes over from Rob Savage ("The Boogeyman"), who stepped away due to scheduling conflicts. At the same time LaKeith Stanfield, announced as the lead in October, is leaving the film; the reports give no reason for his exit.
Written by Nathan Elston, the film follows a man who descends into abandoned tunnels beneath New York and discovers a twisted society living under the streets. Jason Blum, J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael Margules and James Harris produce for Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount Primal, with Paramount handling worldwide distribution.
The US release date of August 27, 2027 remains in place. According to Variety, as cited by Dark Horizons, filming is set to start in the UK in late November or early December.
