Espanyol moved quickly to find a new coach. The La Liga club announced the hiring of Eder Sarabia on Wednesday, just hours after reserve-team coach Sergio Garcia was named interim. Sarabia signed a contract through June 30, 2028. The Basque coach previously led Andorra and Elche, keeping Elche in the top flight last season.
Sarabia's staff includes Jon Lopez, Jon Moreno, Aitor Unzue and former Espanyol player Alvaro Gonzalez. According to OKDiario, interim coach Sergio Garcia will still be on the bench for the league game against Villarreal.
Espanyol fired Manolo Gonzalez on Tuesday after a 4-3 extra-time loss to lower-tier Sestao River in the Copa del Rey. In the league, Espanyol are in the relegation zone after losing at Racing Santander.
