Bayern Munich cruised into the German Cup round of 16 on Wednesday, beating second-division Magdeburg 6-1 after leading 2-1 at halftime. Michael Olise scored twice, in the 10th minute and from a penalty in the 50th, with Ismael Saibari, Alphonso Davies, Nathaniel Brown and David Santos Daiber also on target. Mateusz Zukowski briefly levelled for Magdeburg with a deflected shot in the 15th minute.
Harry Kane, who won the Ballon d'Or two days earlier, was rested on the bench ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga showdown with Borussia Dortmund. Assistant coach Aaron Danks again stood in for head coach Vincent Kompany on the touchline. Magdeburg held their own in the first half but could not keep up after the break.
Sporting director Max Eberl said Kompany was discharged from hospital on Wednesday and that his collapse had been caused by meningeal irritation. The Belgian is to recover at home first. "That is the biggest and best news for all of us," Eberl said.
