EU Budget Commissioner Piotr Serafin is visiting Bulgaria today, Thursday, and on Friday. The Polish commissioner, responsible for budget, anti-fraud and public administration, is touring Europe to consult member states on the EU's next multiannual financial framework for 2028 to 2034, News.bg reported.
On Thursday he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Rumen Radev, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Galab Donev, and Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov, who oversees EU funds. At 10 a.m. Serafin opens a conference titled "The next multiannual financial framework: priorities and principles," organized by the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, the Polish embassy and the Sofia office of the European Council on Foreign Relations.
On Friday the commissioner meets representatives of the National Association of Municipalities to discuss the regional dimension of national and regional partnership plans under the future framework. Afterwards, according to News.bg, he and Pekanov will meet Bulgarian tech companies and look at projects financed with EU money. The visit comes as Sofia must agree its own 2027 budget with Brussels.
