Days before a planned youth protest at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate on Oct. 31, its organisation is crumbling. According to the Tagesspiegel newspaper, little has been arranged beyond registration with the city's assembly authority: no stage has been booked and there are no stewards or speaker list. All activists previously involved have left the “Gen Z regelt” initiative, leaving only one organiser. More than 11,000 euros was raised through a donation link, and it is unclear what will happen to the money. A former committee member said a shared “peaceful framework” no longer existed.
Protests modelled on those in France are planned in 23 German cities, mostly from 2 p.m. Berlin police said in a written reply that there was currently no reliable evidence of targeted extremist influence, although left-wing groups were also mobilising. The paper said Berlin security authorities were relatively relaxed about Saturday, while left-wing circles expect any serious clashes, if at all, on Halloween evening. The Federal Pupils' Committee distanced itself from the calls, citing opaque structures.
