In the village of Bezmer near Yambol, close to a military air base, every house listed sells within a month, the mayor says. Sellers are asking around 100,000 euros.

Property prices have jumped in the village of Bezmer in Bulgaria's Yambol region since US tanker aircraft were stationed at the nearby air base in summer 2026, broadcaster bTV reported on 17.10.2026. "There is no house that is put up for sale and not sold within a month. Prices have jumped drastically," said mayor Rosen Rusev. According to the mayor, sellers are asking around 100,000 euros per property; the report gives no price per square metre.
Three months on, the aircraft have left, but work has begun on a road the village had been waiting on for about two decades. The church is being renovated, and this year Bezmer celebrated its village holiday for the first time. One resident points out that after the road works the village will also get sewerage, a rarity in Bulgarian villages.
The deployment initially caused discontent: residents collected signatures in the village shop and protested, and the defence minister met local mayors to ease tensions. "The story with the planes may have brought us closer to the government," Rusev said.
