Pascal Reddig (CDU), chair of the Junge Gruppe in the CDU/CSU parliamentary group and deputy federal chair of the Junge Union (JU), has called on the Union to give concrete answers to structural questions. “As a party and as the political centre, we are in a deep crisis of trust,” he told the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland. The government needs the courage to tackle necessary changes, he said.
Reddig named three questions: whether the tax system rewards performance and hard work, whether the social systems will still work in future, and whether the budget leaves enough room for investment. “We do not make policy for the next election but for the next generation,” the MP said. He cited Western integration, the social market economy, reunification and Europe as achievements of the Union.
The JU's Deutschlandtag takes place from 16 to 18 October at the World Conference Center Bonn. North Rhine-Westphalia's premier Hendrik Wüst speaks on Friday, Chancellor and CDU leader Friedrich Merz is expected on Saturday and CSU leader Markus Söder on Sunday. Delegates will debate the lead motion “Lust auf Zukunft – Deutschland zum KI-Anwendungsweltmeister machen”. The meeting follows a string of state election defeats for the CDU.
