Drivers living near the Luxembourg border can still save significantly at the pump. On Tuesday, Oct. 13, Luxembourg's state-set maximum price for Super 95 (E10) was 1.876 euros per liter and diesel was capped at 2.081 euros, according to the news site lokalo.de. In Germany, the automobile club ADAC reported nationwide averages of 2.126 euros for E10 and 2.233 euros for diesel in its weekly survey on Oct. 7.
By that measure, E10 was about 25 cents per liter cheaper in Luxembourg and diesel just over 15 cents. Filling 50 liters of Super 95 cost 93.80 euros in Luxembourg, compared with about 106 euros at the German average. The figures are from different days, however, and Luxembourg stations may sell below the caps. Diesel there has risen recently: the cap has climbed 8.6 cents per liter since Oct. 8.
Germany has cut its energy tax by 14 cents per liter from Oct. 1 until the end of the year, or about 17 cents including value-added tax. ADAC says the relief has not fully reached drivers, especially for E10, and has called on oil companies to pass it on in full. Since April, stations may raise prices only once a day, at noon. On highways, the surcharge averaged about 33 cents per liter in an ADAC survey in April.
