Bayern Munich received good news on Wednesday when coach Vincent Kompany was released from the hospital. Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed it on ARD before the cup game against Magdeburg. "That is the biggest and best news for all of us," Eberl said, according to dpa. Kompany collapsed at the training ground last Friday.
Eberl said the cause was meningeal irritation: "It is meningeal irritation that brought about the incident last Friday." He stressed that it was not meningitis. "It's an illness. Any of us can get it."
Eberl gave no date for Kompany's return to the sideline. "The treatment means rest. That will definitely be the case for the next few days," Eberl said after the 6-1 win over Magdeburg. "He will get the rest and the time he needs to get healthy again." Until then, assistant Aaron Danks is in charge, including for Saturday's marquee game against Borussia Dortmund.
