German semiconductor equipment supplier SUSS MicroTec is ending production in Garching near Munich. Equipment and modules will instead be built at its two largest sites, Zhubei in Taiwan and Sternenfels in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. About 70 employees are affected, the company said, adding that job cuts would be handled in a socially responsible way and in consultation with employee representatives.
The company put one-time relocation costs at about 6.2 million euros, around 4.5 million euros of which will fall in the current year. At the same time, SUSS lowered its 2026 guidance: revenue is now expected at 405 million to 425 million euros, down from 425 million to 485 million euros, and the EBIT margin at 5% to 7% instead of 8% to 10%. It cited revenue shifts linked to the move and tight supply of some components.
Board member Thomas Rohe said the reorganization makes production more scalable and moves capacity closer to key customers in Asia. Research and development, the headquarters and technology functions will stay in Germany, and a development and application center is being built in Karlsruhe. Order intake remained high in the third quarter, and the order backlog reached a record. The shares fell as much as about 11% on Tuesday.
