A cyberattack has targeted the email accounts of several members of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies, including the parliamentary mailbox of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. According to Corriere della Sera, cited by Euronews, three addresses were involved: Meloni’s, Andrea Delmastro’s of the Brothers of Italy and Paolo Formentini’s of the League. Sources at the prime minister’s office, Palazzo Chigi, said it was not the account Meloni uses for government communications.
The chamber’s press office said the matter was “not an emergency.” Together with the National Cybersecurity Agency, ACN, all protective measures had been deployed, and some IT functions could be temporarily shut down, it said. Similar attack attempts against national, European and international institutions had intensified in recent days, the office added.
According to ANSA, Rome prosecutors are awaiting an initial report from the postal police and then plan to open an investigation into unauthorized access to a computer system. It is not yet known who is behind the attack.
