Lothar Matthäus has called for Niclas Füllkrug to return to the national team. The numbers speak for the striker even if he has reached a certain age, Germany's record cap holder wrote in his column for Sky, adding that having an experienced joker like Füllkrug would give him a good feeling. National coach Jürgen Klopp wants to rejuvenate the squad, but young players are still too inconsistent, Matthäus argued.
The 33-year-old has scored six goals in six Bundesliga matchdays and shares top spot in the scoring chart with Leverkusen's Patrik Schick. He netted twice in the 2-2 draw with SC Paderborn and afterwards irritably brushed off questions about the national team. According to Weser-Kurier, Klopp has not commented publicly on Füllkrug, who has not featured in any of his squads so far.
