Dortmund fly to Baku without Karetsas after foot ligament injury, Frankfurt game also out

Borussia Dortmund said Konstantinos Karetsas has a ligament injury in his foot. “He will not fly to Baku with us and will not be able to play against Frankfurt either,” managing director Lars Ricken said on Monday before the team left for Azerbaijan, according to dpa. After that, the club would take it “day by day.” Dortmund gave no more detailed diagnosis.
The 18-year-old Greek came on just after the hour mark of Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Union Berlin and hurt his ankle minutes later. “Of course it’s annoying, but at first we expected something worse,” Ricken said. It is unclear whether Karetsas will be fit for the Bundesliga trip to Bayern Munich on Oct. 31.
Coach Niko Kovač has called up 17-year-old Luxembourg central midfielder Enzo dos Santos for the first time for Tuesday’s match against Sabah (kickoff 1645 GMT). Giannis Konstantelias remains sidelined after tearing a cruciate ligament in August and will not play again this year.
