Menlo Research has open-sourced the Python library Menlo SDK and the onboard software Asimov Edge for its humanoid robot Asimov 1. The SDK connects custom programs to the robot's movement, joint states, camera and audio; Asimov Edge checks incoming commands and arbitrates whether an app, a gamepad or another controller is in charge.

The package is available as "menlo-sdk" on the Python Package Index PyPI and requires Python 3.12 or newer. Full-body teleoperation is still in development, according to the trade outlet Humanoid Daily.

According to the manufacturer, Asimov 1 is 1.2 metres tall and weighs 35 kilograms. A self-assembly kit costs around 20,000 dollars according to Humanoid Daily, and Menlo takes orders against a 499-dollar deposit; a video on the official Asimov channel presents the open SDK.
