Nvidia is in early talks to deepen its investment in Reflection AI or acquire the company, the Financial Times reported on Saturday, citing people with direct knowledge of the matter. Reflection declined to comment, and Nvidia did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
The FT said one option is an acqui-hire, in which Nvidia would bring on Reflection's staff and license its technology rather than buy the firm, potentially avoiding a lengthy regulatory review. A deal could come within weeks, but the discussions could still collapse. Nvidia has already invested $800 million in Reflection.
Founded in 2024 by former DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, Reflection builds tools that automate software development. On October 5 it unveiled Beam, its first open-weight model, meant to compete with lower-cost Chinese models such as DeepSeek and Kimi. The company says the model weights are due later this month.
