Espanyol beat Villarreal 1-0 on Friday to open the 11th round of La Liga. In front of 17,486 fans at Estadio de la Cerámica, defender Leandro Cabrera scored in the 60th minute from a Bryan Zaragoza cross. Interim coach Sergio García was still on the bench, while new coach Eder Sarabia watched from the stands.
It was Villarreal's fifth league loss, leaving them with 12 points after 11 games. Forward Gerard Moreno also had to come off in the first half with a muscle problem; there was no diagnosis initially.
"The feeling is not good after losing at home. We are disappointed with the game," Villarreal coach Iñigo Pérez said. "We will have to change things."
