Germany's benchmark DAX (its 40 largest listed companies) lost 0.85% on Friday to 25,818.21 points, slipping back below 26,000. Even so, both the week and the whole of October ended with gains of about 2.5% each (dpa-AFX). The MDAX (mid-sized firms) fell 1.06% and the Euro Stoxx 50 (large eurozone companies) 1.22% to 6,131.31. Smaller and tech stocks fell harder: SDAX about −2.0%, TecDAX about −1.4% (finanzen.net, 17:57).

Pressure came from the US, where Amazon and Intel disappointed with their results and outlooks, hitting the tech sector. In the DAX, Siemens Energy (−6.87%) and chipmaker Infineon (−6.39%) fell the most. Oil prices rose to their highest level since April on fears of a new US military strike on Iran (dpa-AFX).

Bayer was the DAX's best performer, up 5.46% at €50.58, after a Missouri jury ruled in its favour in a glyphosate case. In the MDAX, Puma rose 5.6% after a smaller third-quarter loss. Evonik rejected BASF's takeover approach but is open to an exchange of information; both shares edged higher (dpa-AFX).

Economic data were mixed. German inflation fell to 2.8% in October (September: 3.3%), mainly due to a fuel tax cut. Germany's GDP grew 0.2% in the third quarter and the eurozone's 0.4% (Destatis, dpa-AFX).
