Few film scenes have sent as many people to train as the “Rocky” montages. The official YouTube channel “Official Rocky Balboa” has put every training montage of the series together in order – from the first runs through Philadelphia to the later films.
Again and again the same backdrop takes centre stage: the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, now known as the “Rocky Steps”. There are 72 steps in six sections. The scene is regarded as one of the first uses of the Steadicam in a major film – a camera rig that lets an operator film smoothly while running or climbing stairs. For “Rocky III” (1982) Stallone commissioned sculptor A. Thomas Schomberg to make a bronze statue, which now stands at the top of the steps again.
The montages are cinema, not a training plan – and in 2026 Stallone himself spoke openly about the price of his screen body. What remains is the message Rocky stands for: keep going, step by step, stair by stair. Anyone who runs up the Philadelphia steps is in good company – they remain a goal for runners and tourists to this day.
