Kojima Productions has released the first teaser for 'Death Stranding Isolations'. The anime series was presented at 'Beyond the Strand', the studio's 10th-anniversary event at Azabudai Hills Gallery in Tokyo. It is based on Hideo Kojima's 'Death Stranding' video game series and is due to stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027; Kojima is executive producer.
According to the studio, the series tells a completely new story, separate from the games. It is set in North America shortly after the game's protagonist Sam reconnects the continent through the Chiral Network – with unforeseen consequences. At its centre are a young man and a young woman; other characters include a wise old man, a female soldier caught in a cycle of war and an angry boy.
The series is directed by Takayuki Sano, with series composition and screenplay by science fiction author Tow Ubukata ('Mardock Scramble') and character designs by Ilya Kuvshinov. It is animated in traditional hand-drawn 2D by studio E&H production ('Ninja Kamui'). Sano said he approached the production 'with an exceptionally strong sense of duty and responsibility'.
