VfB Stuttgart ended a brief slump with a 4-2 win at Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Ermedin Demirovic scored in the 14th and 65th minutes, with Jamie Leweling (22nd) and Bilal El Khannouss (51st) also on target. Patrik Schick, with a header, and Ibrahim Maza (79th) replied for Leverkusen, who suffered their first home loss of the season after a 3-0 defeat at Hoffenheim last time out.

Referee Benjamin Brand showed nine yellow cards in a feisty game. Stuttgart moved up to 10th for now, while Leverkusen dropped to sixth. "Through results we can build confidence and then we will play better football again," Stuttgart forward Deniz Undav told Sky.

In other afternoon games, Werder Bremen beat Hoffenheim 2-0. Niclas Fullkrug scored his ninth league goal of the season in the 57th minute to stay top of the scoring chart, and Eren Dinkci added a second in the 82nd. RB Leipzig won 2-0 at Schalke, Freiburg won 2-1 at Augsburg, and Borussia Monchengladbach drew 0-0 with Paderborn.
