Prosecutors on Thursday asked the Rostock regional court to sentence a woman to life in prison for the murder of eight-year-old Fabian from Güstrow. They also asked the court to find a particular gravity of guilt, which would make release after 15 years virtually impossible. The prosecution argues the killing was treacherous and driven by base motives.

The 30-year-old defendant, a former partner of the boy's father, is accused of picking the boy up on Oct. 10, 2025, stabbing him at a pond about 15 kilometers (9 miles) south of Güstrow and setting his body on fire. Prosecutors say she could not accept the breakup in August 2025. Prosecutor Oliver Schley cited a "clear chain of circumstantial evidence" including witness statements, camera footage, chats, phone data and forensic traces. A psychiatrist found her fully criminally responsible.

The defendant denies the charges. There is no confession and no direct eyewitness. The defense is due to give its closing argument on Friday, with a verdict expected on Nov. 10. She is presumed innocent until convicted.
