Single: The Last Season Of America
Seasick Steve released his album 'The Last Season Of America' on Eastcote Recordings on 18 September. According to laut.de, the Norway-based Californian addresses his concern about the Trump administration's policies and his sense that the USA is in decline – most clearly in the title track and in 'Bad Things'. He is backed by Martin Terefe on bass, Dave Okumu on second guitar and Dan Magnusson on drums; Ricardo Arjona sings on 'El Camino'.
Hugo Simoes gives the album 7 out of 10 at Americana UK and describes the opening title track as a mournful acoustic ballad with an indictment of modern America; 'Bad Things' stands out with backwards guitar solos. Gil Bieler at laut.de is more sceptical: as a whole the album remains 'lukewarm', 'not bad enough to be bothered by, but not good enough to recommend'. He picks out 'Free Man' as the track to hear.
