Manchester United will be without striker Benjamin Sesko for an extended period, coach Michael Carrick said on Thursday. "We're still not clear of exactly how long, but it's going to be for a longer period of time," Carrick told a news conference. British media reported the Slovenian is expected to miss games until at least January with a troublesome shin injury.

Carrick said United would "try to get him back as quick as we can", adding the club first had to see how the injury reacted to a healing process. Sesko, 23, has missed United's last six matches in all competitions.

In better news, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo trained on Wednesday and is "back in and around the group", Carrick said. United visit Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
