Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov held talks with Hungary's deputy head of government and Foreign Minister Anita Orbán at the end of a three-day visit to Budapest. The occasion for the trip was the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Hristov praised the uprising as a symbol of the striving for freedom and democracy that inspired later democratic movements in Europe, the BTA news agency reported.
Orbán spoke of a “Bulgaria week” and recalled her official visit to Sofia on Oct. 19, ten years after that date was declared the Day of Bulgarian-Hungarian Friendship. Both sides described relations as friendly and marked by mutual trust, saying there were no open issues on the bilateral agenda.
They agreed to expand cooperation in trade, investment, energy, transport links and tourism. Both governments reaffirmed their interest in the Vertical Gas Corridor. They also intend to coordinate within their alliances on European stability and Black Sea security.
