Paris Brunner put AS Monaco on course for victory against SC Freiburg in the Conference League. The 20-year-old Germany U21 international scored in first-half stoppage time (45+2) on Thursday evening to give AS Monaco a 1-0 lead, lifting the ball over Freiburg defender Max Rosenfelder before finishing coolly. Lamine Camara (83rd) and Ansu Fati (90+2) completed the 3-0 win.
According to ZDFheute, Brunner also caused danger with further attempts. For Freiburg, who have three points after two matchdays, goalkeeper Mio Backhaus kept the deficit small before the break with several saves. “The defeat is annoying, we're leaving with a 0-3, but it wasn't that clear-cut,” Freiburg coach Julian Schuster said.
Asked about a senior Germany call-up, Brunner was relaxed, according to AFP: he wants to make his case with goals and is not too worried that there has been no contact with head coach Jürgen Klopp yet. The video “Paris Brunner auf Torjagd in Monaco” from the RTL Sport YouTube channel was published before the match.
