New orders in Germany's main construction sector rose 23.0% in August from July after adjusting for prices, calendar and seasonal effects, the Federal Statistical Office said Friday. It was the largest monthly increase since records began in 1991, driven by several large contracts.
Civil engineering orders surged 31.6%, while building construction rose 12.4%. Over the less volatile three-month period, orders were up 7.6%, but building construction gained only 0.6% and was down 1.7% from August 2025.
Real turnover rose 4.9% year on year; in nominal terms it climbed 10.1% to 10.9 billion euros. Employment in the sector grew 1.5% to about 548,000.
