Anthropic has opened a research preview of Claude Duet, a standalone app in which Claude works as a proactive agent. Duet sends a short morning brief on priority items from connected apps, checks them every few hours according to the company, and only gets in touch when something needs attention. It completes tasks such as scheduling, dashboards, forecasts or small web apps on its own virtual machine with its own browser, so a laptop or phone does not need to stay on. It is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model.

Access is via a waitlist, initially for Pro and Max subscribers in the US, through apps for iOS and Android and on claude.ai. Duet carries over memory, skills and connected apps from the Claude account; according to Anthropic, more than 6,000 connectors and plugins are available through the Claude Marketplace, such as Gmail, Slack, Shopify and HubSpot. Usage counts against the same limits as the rest of Claude.

Users must approve before the agent sends messages, makes payments, signs documents or deletes anything; some actions, such as trading securities or moving money between accounts, are off-limits even with approval. According to Anthropic, the agent never sees passwords or sign-in tokens directly. The company concedes that Duet may still misjudge urgency: "We're continuing to test its judgment about when to message you."
