Bulgarian exchange power 2.05% dearer on Thursday at €250.17/MWh
The IBEX average price for 22 October edges up after Wednesday's drop. Daytime peak hours, however, rise by more than 15%, while night and evening hours get 10% cheaper.
On the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX), producers, traders and large consumers buy and sell electricity. On the day-ahead market, the price for each hour of the following day is set in an auction. For Thursday 22 October, the average price across the whole day (base) is €250.17 per megawatt-hour excluding VAT. That is 2.05% more than on Wednesday, when a megawatt-hour cost €245.14.
The small overall change hides two opposite moves. In peak hours (8:00 to 20:00) the price jumps 15.23% to €269.84 (Wednesday: €234.17). In the remaining hours (off-peak, 0:00–8:00 and 20:00–24:00) it falls 10.00% to €230.49 (Wednesday: €256.10). Unlike on Wednesday, daytime power is thus again more expensive than night-time power, by €39.35 per megawatt-hour.
According to the published exchange data, total traded volume is 93,359.50 MWh (Wednesday: 88,667.68 MWh). Neighbouring markets show similar prices for Thursday: about €251.53 in Romania and €263.21 in Hungary, while Greece's preliminary average is lower at €201.29.
