Bayern Munich drew 2-2 with Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday after surrendering a second-half lead. In front of a sold-out crowd of 75,000 at the Allianz Arena, Eberechi Eze put Arsenal ahead in the 25th minute, having come on for the injured Bukayo Saka after just 10 minutes. Alphonso Davies, deployed unexpectedly on the left wing, equalised in the 35th minute from a long pass by Harry Kane. Kane converted a handball penalty in the 61st minute before Declan Rice equalised in the 82nd.
According to German broadcaster ZDF, Kane has now scored in 10 consecutive Champions League matches, a club record. Bayern were without Joshua Kimmich, who was absent following a bereavement in his family, while Michael Olise was suspended and Jamal Musiala is out with a muscle fibre tear. Coach Vincent Kompany was on the touchline despite a viral infection. "We had the feeling that we could win the game, maybe even had to," Kompany said, according to ZDF. Kane said Bayern had the chance to kill the game off.
Bayern have five points from three matches and are 14th in the league phase, according to the SID agency. Only the top eight advance directly to the round of 16. Sporting director Max Eberl noted that five games remain. Kompany immediately turned his attention to the Bundesliga, where the league leaders visit SC Freiburg on Sunday. Arsenal's Kai Havertz said his side could be proud of holding their own against one of Europe's best teams.
