Fuel for private vehicles in Bulgaria cost 42.2 percent more in September than a year earlier. That is according to Eurostat data reported by BNT and BTA. Bulgaria thus recorded the largest annual increase of all EU member states for the second consecutive month. In July the rise had been 22.2 percent, in August 34.5 percent.
Across the EU, prices rose by an average of 31.4 percent in September. Besides Bulgaria, only Estonia, at 40.6 percent, and Lithuania, at 40.2 percent, were above the 40 percent mark. The smallest rise was in Hungary at 6.9 percent, followed by Ireland and Sweden.
Compared with August, diesel in Bulgaria rose by 5.5 percent and petrol by 6.3 percent. In the EU as a whole, diesel was up 5.9 percent and petrol 6.7 percent. The statistics do not give reasons for the price increases.
