Arsenal are sweating over the fitness of Bukayo Saka after the England winger was forced off in the 10th minute of Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League draw at Bayern Munich. The 25-year-old clutched his thigh after playing a pass without any challenge from an opponent. He was replaced by Eberechi Eze, who opened the scoring in the 25th minute. There was no official diagnosis on Wednesday night. Scans in London are expected to determine the severity of the injury, GOAL reported.
"A player who has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news, but we have to wait and see," manager Mikel Arteta told TNT Sports, adding that the medical staff were "a bit concerned." At his press conference he said: "It doesn't look good at all, but we have to wait and see." According to dpa, Saka had started all seven of Arsenal's Premier League matches this season and two of their three Champions League games.
Saka missed several spells last season with hamstring, hip and Achilles problems, NBC Sports noted. Arsenal are also without Christos Tzolis and allowed Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli to leave this season, which could mean more minutes for Eze or youngster Max Dowman. Arsenal are back in Premier League action this weekend. Before the trip to Munich, Arsenal had won both of their opening league-phase matches in this season's competition.
