Marc-André ter Stegen and Ajax Amsterdam responded to their defeat at Hajduk Split in the Conference League. Ajax beat Atalanta 2-0 at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Thursday evening – the Germany goalkeeper, for now Jürgen Klopp's number one, kept a clean sheet. He was booked shortly before the end.
It stayed goalless for a long time until the substitutes decided the match: Tolu Arokodare scored in the 87th minute after a one-on-one with Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi, and Abdellah Ouazane added a thunderous second in stoppage time. Former Germany international Julian Brandt started in the number ten role, missed a good headed chance and was substituted in stoppage time.
