"Jewish question settled": Brandenburg CDU leader criticises post by party allies

The CDU business association in Potsdam linked the Nazi-era term "Jewish question" to Berlin's coalition talks in an Instagram post. State leader Redmann sees a lack of sensitivity but no antisemitism.

Brandenburg's interior minister and state CDU leader Jan Redmann has distanced himself from an Instagram post by the Potsdam branch of the party's business association (MIT). The post showed an AI-generated image of Berlin's Red Town Hall with two minarets and the text "Jewish question settled, now comes expropriation. With that, the firewall has fallen." It referred to coalition talks between the Left Party, the Greens and the SPD in Berlin.

The necessary degree of sensitivity had not been observed in the post, Redmann said, according to dpa. He added that the post was not antisemitic. The term "Jewish question" recalls Nazi language surrounding the mass murder of Europe's Jews. MIT Potsdam did not initially respond to the criticism.

The JCDA Brandenburg demanded a public apology and personnel consequences. The Left Party and the Greens in Potsdam called it a taboo breach, and Brandenburg's Young Socialists called the post a "repugnant crossing of a line". According to Tagesspiegel, Potsdam CDU Bundestag member Saskia Ludwig and INSM head Thorsten Alsleben had liked the post.
