Eintracht Frankfurt released sporting director Markus Kroesche with immediate effect on Sunday. The supervisory board unanimously granted his request at an extraordinary meeting. His contract runs until June 30, 2028, and the club said it will continue in adjusted form but gave no details. Chief executive Axel Hellmann will also handle the sporting director's duties on an interim basis.

Kroesche said he had felt for some time that he needed a change and that the club could benefit from a fresh impulse. He wanted the matter settled before the upcoming members' meeting so he could say goodbye there in person.

Club president and supervisory board chairman Mathias Beck said Kroesche had decisively shaped Eintracht in recent years. In just over five years under Kroesche, Frankfurt won the Europa League and qualified for the Champions League.
