Hannover 96 and FC St. Pauli drew 1-1 in the second division on Saturday night. Abdoulie Ceesay scored for the visitors from Hamburg in first-half stoppage time and Husseyn Chakroun leveled in the 48th minute, Hannover's first goal under coach Sandro Wagner, who made his home debut before a sellout crowd of 48,700.
Chakroun, making his first start of the season, had an 8th-minute goal ruled out for offside. Virgil Ghiță hit the crossbar and Ceesay struck the post in the 73rd minute. League match data credited Hannover with 1.78 expected goals to St. Pauli's 1.27.
St. Pauli coach Marcel Rapp called it a fair draw. His side is seventh with 11 points, four behind the promotion playoff spot, while Hannover is 12th with eight. Hannover sporting director Jonas Boldt said: "In any case it was a step forward."
