Plainclothes Berlin police officers specialising in vehicle crime arrested two teenagers in Treptow-Köpenick on Wednesday evening. According to police, at around 9:35 p.m. in Niederschöneweide the officers noticed two people riding a moped out of the city without helmets. The pair were stopped, tried to flee, but were arrested.

According to police, the 16-year-old rider had no driving licence, and the scooter had been reported stolen. His 17-year-old companion was also arrested. In a nearby street, officers found a second moped that had likewise been reported stolen. Both vehicles were seized.

The teenagers had their identities formally recorded by police. The 16-year-old was then released into his mother's care, while the 17-year-old was handed over to the criminal police of Police Directorate 3 (East). The investigation is ongoing; both are presumed innocent.
