What a home costs varies enormously around the world. An analysis by Deutsche Bank based on data from portal Numbeo, which are mainly reported by users, and presented by Visual Capitalist in January 2026, compares monthly rent for a three-bedroom apartment in the city center (as of 2025). New York is the most expensive at $8,388 a month.

Cairo is the cheapest of the major cities examined at $412, followed by Delhi at $588. Such an apartment in central New York thus costs about 20 times as much as a comparable one in the center of the Egyptian capital.

German cities rank in the upper half of the 69 cities examined: according to the analysis, Munich comes in at $3,377 (19th), Frankfurt at $2,778 (31st) and Berlin at $2,700 (33rd). Cities more expensive than Munich include Singapore ($6,216), London ($5,560) and Zurich ($4,955). Because Numbeo data come mainly from users, the figures are approximations, not official statistics.
