Bulgarian exchange power 34.45% dearer on Monday at €235.50/MWh

The Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) is a marketplace where producers, traders and large consumers buy and sell electricity. On the day-ahead market, the price for every hour of a day is set in an auction the day before. For Monday 12 October, the average price across the whole day (base) is €235.50 per megawatt-hour excluding VAT – 34.45% more than on Sunday (€175.16).

Peak hours (9:00 to 20:00), when factories and offices are working, rise the most: €235.21 on average, up 77.72% from Sunday's €132.35. In the remaining hours (off-peak, 1:00–8:00 and 21:00–24:00) a megawatt-hour costs €235.79, up 8.18%. Day and night are therefore almost equally expensive on Monday – the gap is just 58 cents.

Traded volume is 89,892.70 MWh, about 5.70% more than on Sunday (85,044.37). A rise at the start of the working week is common, as business demand returns after the weekend. Prices for Tuesday 13 October will be published this afternoon.
