Another merchant vessel has been attacked from the air off Bulgaria's Black Sea coast. The Maltese-flagged cargo ship Chelsea 3 was struck by a drone at around 2 a.m. some 15 nautical miles off the town of Byala in Varna province, the Varna regional administration said. The ship, sailing from Turkey to Moldova, is listing slightly. Shipping news site Maritime.bg reported it was hit by three drones.
All 15 crew members were evacuated and brought to Varna by a Border Police boat. According to initial information from the regional administration, nobody was hurt. It is unclear where the drone was launched from. According to BNT, it is owned and managed by Odesa-based Black Sea Shipping Management.
It is the latest in a series of attacks on civilian ships in Bulgarian waters; on Oct. 6 the Togo-flagged freighter Alfa Watan sank after a drone attack.
