A movement on your sleeve: Konstantin Chaykin makes mechanical cufflinks

The "Master of Days" cufflinks display the day of the week, which advances each time the fastening lever is flipped – with no crown at all.

Watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin has unveiled an unusual accessory: mechanical cufflinks called "Master of Days". Instead of the time, they display the day of the week. The indication advances each time the wearer flips the lever that secures the cufflinks. There is no crown and no regulating organ, watch magazine Hodinkee reports.

The case is made of brushed and polished titanium, measures 18 millimetres in diameter and 5.7 millimetres in height, and is topped with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Inside is calibre A.01-1, with 40 components and two jewels. The cufflinks are not a limited edition and, according to trade site SJX, are available directly from the maker.

Hodinkee writer Borna Bošnjak calls the set "a genius exercise in micromechanics", less about keeping time than about being a clever mechanical accessory. SJX places the launch within a wider trend of watchmakers expanding into accessories and jewellery. Commercially, such products can add revenue without straining the after-sales service network, the site writes.
