The 12th Cinelibri international festival of literary adaptations runs from Oct. 15 to Nov. 8 in Sofia and six other Bulgarian cities under the theme 'Civilization of the Spectacle.' Four new Bulgarian films will premiere there, two of them in the nine-film competition, the newspaper Sega reports.

The competition includes 'Ostaynitsa' by Kostadin Bonev, a Bulgarian-Italian-Albanian co-production based on the novel by Rene Karabash, which was shortlisted for the International Booker Prize. Albanian actress Altea Lazai stars, and the Sofia premiere is on Oct. 16 at the Lumière cinema. Also in competition is the black comedy 'Taksi za Raya' by Ivan Nichev and Todor Chapkanov, based on a novella by Dimitré Dinev (premiere on Oct. 24).

Out of competition, the festival is showing 'Osta na zhivota' by Atanas Hristoskov, a Bulgarian-Hungarian co-production based on a book by Swami Tirtha, featuring Clive Russell, who is expected at the Sofia premiere on Nov. 4. The program also includes Evgenia Taneva's children's comedy 'Hana na 7 i polovina,' premiering on Oct. 25.
