Dmitry Bivol's fight against Callum Smith is official. Matchroom Boxing announced on Monday that the Russian will defend his unified light heavyweight titles against the Briton on Dec. 12 at the UMMC Arena in Yekaterinburg. As holder of the WBO interim title, Smith is Bivol's mandatory challenger for that organization. Russian promoter RCC Boxing said last week that Smith had signed his contract.
Bivol beat Artur Beterbiev in February 2025 to become undisputed champion. He later vacated the WBC belt and returned from back surgery. In May he won a decision over Michael Eifert in Yekaterinburg, fulfilling his IBF mandatory defense.
Smith is a former WBA super middleweight champion. He has fought at light heavyweight since losing to Canelo Alvarez in December 2020. He lost to Beterbiev in January 2024 and beat Joshua Buatsi on points in February 2025. He has not fought since.
