NRW interior minister Reul has hip surgery after fall
Herbert Reul (CDU) fell at Wuppertal police headquarters on Friday. The operation was successful, and he is cancelling major engagements for now.

North Rhine-Westphalia's interior minister Herbert Reul (CDU) has had hip surgery after a fall. According to earlier reports he tripped over a narrow step at Wuppertal police headquarters on Friday. The operation that evening was successful, dpa reported.
"The hip is repaired, now it's about getting back on my feet quickly," Reul said on Saturday. He thanked the doctors and nursing staff. "Now it's training and above all being patient, which I will find particularly hard," he added. He is skipping major engagements for the time being.
Even before the fall, Reul had disclosed health problems. On Thursday he said he had undergone surgery during the summer holidays to stop a hand tremor and had had speech difficulties since, the cause of which is still unclear. The state election is about six months away.
