The second stage of the reconstruction of the road over the Dyulino Pass in Burgas province began on Saturday. The 31-kilometer section will cost about 42 million euros, state broadcaster BNT reported. The road links Burgas with the pass and serves as an alternative to the main Burgas-Varna route.

Regional Development Minister Ivan Shishkov said the work would take about a year and a half. He said the road is of regional importance, especially during the tourist season, and should have been repaired much earlier. The first tender for a technical design was launched in 2018, and work has repeatedly started and stopped since then.

A full closure had originally been planned, but because of the summer season traffic will be regulated so that the road stays open. Local residents have repeatedly complained about the slow progress.
