Novak Djokovic has made an early exit at the Shanghai Masters. The Serb lost to Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 6-3 in the second round on Friday after 87 minutes. The Pole hit 13 aces and 28 winners – his first victory over Djokovic in nine meetings.
"I was not close to what I was playing in Beijing," Djokovic said, according to Sky Sports. Returning Hurkacz's serve was "very difficult, almost impossible". He said he plans to play only in Paris from here.
Top seed Alexander Zverev, meanwhile, beat wild card Wu Yibing 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) to reach the third round. He slipped at 5-5 in the second set but finished the match without a medical timeout. Next up is Quentin Halys.
