Bayer Leverkusen will be without Christian Kofane for the coming weeks. The 20-year-old sustained a muscle injury in his left thigh while on duty with Cameroon, the club said. It did not give a date for his return.
That puts the focus on Victor Boniface. The 25-year-old has made just one substitute appearance this season. Coach Carles Martínez called him "of course an option."
Leverkusen have seven points from four games and play at Mainz on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. local time. Away from home, the team has taken only one of six possible points. "We have to give everything and be motivated to improve these numbers," Martínez said.
