Kompany on Bischof debate: “The national team plays no role”

Tom Bischof impressed for Klopp alongside Pavlović, while Kimmich is usually first choice at Bayern. Coach Vincent Kompany says international performances do not decide his starting XI.

With Joshua Kimmich left out by head coach Jürgen Klopp for the games against Serbia (2-0) and in Greece (0-0), Tom Bischof caught the eye for Germany alongside Aleksandar Pavlović. Ahead of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga trip to Augsburg, coach Vincent Kompany was asked on Friday whether that would affect his line-up.

“In my decisions for a starting XI the national team plays no role, no matter which national team,” Kompany said according to ZDFheute. He pointed to Kimmich’s strong displays before the break, such as the 7-0 win over Union Berlin, and, according to GOAL, recalled his time as a Belgium international, when he learned not to carry bad experiences from national-team duty back to his club.

On the long break with four internationals, Kompany said: “I’d rather play every three days than what the last three weeks were.” Bayern now face nine games in four weeks; in November Germany play their final two Nations League matches against Serbia and the Netherlands.
