SC Freiburg were among the winners of the first international window under head coach Jürgen Klopp: right-back Philipp Treu and attacker Derry Scherhant impressed, while Yannik Engelhardt and Max Rosenfelder also made their senior Germany debuts.
Coach Julian Schuster said according to SID that the players had come back with a “positive feeling and brought momentum that can help us”. The key was “finding the right mix – allowing the emotions, but then also getting the drive towards Schalke”.
Freiburg have ten points from their first four Bundesliga games and host Schalke 04 on Sunday at 17:30. Whether the debutants will also be in the squad for November’s games against Serbia and the Netherlands remains open; Klopp has said he will then work with a smaller group.
