Füllkrug after late goal in Dortmund: “If my country needs me, I’m there”
Niclas Füllkrug grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser against his former club Dortmund. He is available for Germany – “but I’m not begging for it,” the Werder striker said.

Niclas Füllkrug earned Werder Bremen a point at Signal Iduna Park on Friday night: Borussia Dortmund led 2-0 through Daniel Svensson (80) and Nico Schlotterbeck (85) before Ludovit Reis (88) and Füllkrug, with a stoppage-time header (90+2), made it 2-2. It was Füllkrug’s first goal against his former club.
After the match the 33-year-old also spoke about the national team. “If my country needs me, I’m there for my country,” Füllkrug said according to SID, joking: “Even if I’m 43.” He added: “But I’m not begging for it, I’m not demanding anything.”
Füllkrug has scored 14 goals in 24 internationals; his most recent appearance for Germany came in June 2025. Head coach Jürgen Klopp left him out of the large squad for the four Nations League matches in September and October – according to Füllkrug, Klopp said he was focusing on the future.
