The first Bulgarian cultural meeting is taking place today, 10 October, at the Bulgarian embassy in Berlin. Its motto is "Our word preserves us, our traditions bring us together". It is organised by Veneta Terzieva and Valentin Grigorov of the culture and information portal "Bulgarian Berlin", under the patronage of Bulgaria's ambassador to Germany, Grigor Porozhanov. According to Radio Bulgaria, more than 250 participants and guests are expected.
The programme includes a presentation of Bulgarian language, culture and traditions, a book fair with eleven authors and a children's almanac with stories and drawings by young participants. There will also be a banitsa and pogacha contest, the exhibition "150 Years of Immortality" on the poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev, funded by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture, as well as crafts, music and the project "Bulgarian Symbols of Strength" featuring handmade symbols and embroidery motifs. Also taking part is Emilia Jücker, chair of the Association of Bulgarian Women and Families in Hamburg, which she says has been promoting the Bulgarian language for 20 years. "Bulgaria is wherever people live who carry it in their hearts," Terzieva said.
